FLOW STATE COLOR FIELD STUDY
A print and pattern study exploring the relationship between modern artists’ Helen Frankenthaler and Mark Rothko’s color field paintings and their relationship to the concept of flow state. Flow state is characterized as being in the zone in “a mental state where you are completely absorbed in an activity, leading to intense focus, a loss of self-consciousness, and a distorted sense of time.” I drew comparisons to this sensation and the process driven works of modern paintings to create a set of prints through physical studies on muslin.
